The
Talmud tells a story about a poor Jew named Joseph, who despite
his meager means would always try his best to honor the Sabbath.
During the week, he would just get by with the bare minimum to
buy food, but for the Shabbos dinner, he would splurge to buy
the nicest fish, whatever the cost. One Friday, the towns
fisherman had caught a whopper, for which he demanded an exorbitant
sum, far above everyone elses price range. The faithful
Joseph, who always shopped for the very best for Shabbos, was
the only interested customer.
When
he brought the fish home, his wife cut the fish open to prepare
and cook it. How astounded she was to find inside a sparkling,
precious gem that the fish had swallowed. Joseph and his wife
were thus well rewarded for their Shabbos expense, and they lived
happily ever after.
Fish
is the important first course in the Shabbos meal, of which gefilte
fish is most popular, especially in the tradition of Ashkenazic
cuisine. When made properly, gefilte fish is a near-perfect food
both Jewishly and nutritionally. (The deboned gefilte fish eliminates
possible halachic complications of the Sabbath laws, which forbid
the selection or separation of inedible parts from the desired
food. see more)
Pareve
and convenient, gefilte fish is as good cold as it is warm, and
permitted both on Passover and all year round. When created from
the finest fish, it is low in fat, calories and cholesterol and
an altogether a delicious form of protein.
But
there is no escaping the fact that preparing gefilte fish from
scratch takes a lot of experience, skill, work and effort.
Every
once in while a new product appears on the market that is so
brilliant in its simplicity, that one can not help wondering
why no one thought of this sooner. Such is the case with A&B
Famous fish.
The
folks at A&B Famous take gefilte fish to perfection, making
it much tastier than the ordinary store bought, and much easer
than home-made. In all, a win-win combination.
Until
A&B Famous came up with its bright idea, the readily available
jarred and canned versions of gefilte fish were poor substitutes
for this beloved delicacy. Except for A&B Famous, many of
the ready- made varieties are filled with chemicals such as preservatives
and fillers such as matzoh meal.
A&B
Famous has found a better way. They use only premium quality
pieces of fillet, which are carefully seasoned, prepared and
processed as any careful home cook would, adding neither the
fillers nor the chemicals. Once the preparation has reached its
peak, it is nicely shaped into loaves and frozen. Whether the
consumer prefers the classic sweet variety, the sugar free or
the salmon loaf, each of these preparations bears as much similarity
to the bottled brand as a mansion to a bungalow. All the home
cook has to do is take the fish from the freezer place it into
a shallow pan with some water and bake/cook to a boil for about
one hour.
The
fish packaging comes with easy cooking directions, as well as
several innovative ways in which to serve the fish. The cardboard
box itself is ecologically friendly, with neither tin nor glass
that have to be recycled. Its no wonder that in blind tastings,
A&B Famous products have consistently won all contests. It
doesnt merely taste like the fish that grandma used to
make... it is actually made from the kind of recipe that grandma
would use for her own family.
Social
scientists tell us about the importance of evocative scents and
wafting aromas, which make us, recall certain times and places
of our past. When this gefilte fish is cooking, its fragrance
will bring back sweet, nostalgic memories of old fashioned tenements
of Brooklyn, the Bronx, or the East Side. You can almost imagine
Grandma herself standing in your kitchen, just so long as your
Grandma was a great cook.
Better,
much better, than the ordinary store-bought, this gefilte fish
is easier than the old fashioned home-made fish, requiring hardly
any effort by the cook. A&B Famous gefilte fish is a gourmet
classic, retaining the entire homemade flavor and produced with
high -tech hygiene and efficiency.
As
A&Bs popularity continues to grow across the country,
supermarkets all over have begun to stock the item. If the supermarket
in your area does not yet carry this product, you can order it
by calling A&B at 1888-425-4101.
Do
you still remember that Talmud fish story about finding a jewel
in the fish that we started out with? Let me assure you that
your family will definitely find that eating A&B Famous will
be a most rewarding experience.
But
please, dont expect to find any precious jewels or diamonds
inside the package. As I already told you, A&B Famous has
absolutely no foreign additives or fillers. But it is most certainly
a jewel of a fish!
